| Description | A woman eating cotton candy at Summit Beach Amusement Park during a Goodyear Aircraft Company picnic. Summit Beach Park, also known as Akron's "The Million Dollar Playground" opened in 1917. It was eastern Ohio's most profitable amusement park during the 1920s. On average, the park attracted 25,000 people a day. It featured the country's largest funhouse and the Crystal Pool - the largest mosaic tile pool in the country. Summit Lake Park also featured a dance hall called the Wisteria.
The park closed on Labor Day 1958. Today, the site of Summit Beach Park is a government housing project. |
