| Description | Ralph H. Lodge, a Cleveland businessman, opened Silver Lake Amusement Park in 1875. Silver Lake Park quickly grew in popularity due to its easy access to the railroad. On average 10,000 people a day visited Silver Lake. Silver Lake Park featured boating, swimming, and a pavilion with a 15,000 square-foot dance floor. Other attractions included a freshwater aquarium, two roller coasters, a baseball field, and the Chautauquan steam boat. Silver Lake Park was also the home of Summit County's first airport, and a horse race track. In 1918, after World War I, the Lodge family closed Silver Lake Amusement Park due to the lack of passenger train visits. |
