| Description | Two unidentifed men presenting an Akron Chamber of Commerce document of gratitude to the Chevrolet Motor Company. The Chevrolet Motor Company was the national sponsor of the Soap Box Derby. The document reads: "TO THE CHEVROLET MOTOR DIVISION AND ITS OFFICIALS Be it known by this token that: The city of Akron is deeply indebited to the Chevrolet Motor Division for giving it the opportunity to play host for the third successive year to the American and International Soap Box Derby. Akron hopes that in cooperation with the Akron Beacon Journal it may again entertain the American and International Derby in 1938 and in succeeding years. The Akron Chamber of Commerce, speaking for the entire community, takes this means of recording its gratitude to the Chevrolet Motor Division for its origination of this greatest amateur racing event in the world, for its magnificent and skillful staging of the event, and its repeated choice of Soap Box Derby Downs at Akron Municipal Airport as the site for the National and International finals." |
