DescriptionMr. and Mrs. Admiral William Moffett (left), Paul W. Litchfield, and Commander Alger Dresel (right) at the christening ceremony of the U.S.S. Macon at the Goodyear-Zeppelin airship dock at Akron, Ohio on March 13, 1933. Admiral William Moffett was Chief of the Navy's Bureau of Aeronautics. He later died in the U.S.S. Akron crash. Paul W. Litchfield was the president of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Litchfield began an aeronautics department for Goodyear in 1910, and launched the company into lighter-than-air craft production. The company produced observation balloons, zeppelins, and blimps. Commander Alger Dresel was the commanding officer of the U.S.S. Akron.
