Firestone Builds Tire Plant In France / Pick Town of Bethune /
Bethune, a small community in northern France, has been selected as the site for Firestone Tire & Rubber Co.'s new tire plant in that country.
Construction of the one-story factory will begin immediately, Chairman Harvey S. Firestone Jr. announced Saturday.
WHEN COMPLETED late
in 1960, the facility will produce a full line of tires and tubes for passenger cars, trucks, busses, farm equipment, motorcycles and scooters, Firestone said. The French plant will be
Firestone's 18th foreign tire manufacturing operation. A new tire plant will open in Calgary, Canada, this year and a synthetic rubber plant will be built in Bombay, India.
Bethune is 123 miles north of Paris near the coast and is 21 miles west of Lille, an important industrial and rail center.
"The decision to locate on the 81-acre site in Bethune was made because of its excellent transportation facilities and the availability of plentiful supplies of power, water and efficient manpower" Firestone said. |
