In 1898, Charles Willard Seiberling and brother Franklin Augustus Seiberling founded the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, naming it in honor of Charles Goodyear. Charles Goodyear (1800-1860) was the first American to vulcanize rubber, a process he discovered in 1839.
