| Description | The first Akron High School located on Forge Street in downtown Akron, Ohio. When the high school opened on September 6, 1886, it was the largest building in the city. In 1911, after the opening of South High School, Akron High School's name was changed to Central High School. The name changed again, in 1970, to Central-Hower after a merger with the Hower Vocational High School. The building was demolished in 1975 and replaced by a modern school building. Central-Hower High School closed in 2006. The building now functions as a temporary school during school building renovations. |
