DescriptionPoised for takeoff from a fairway at Portage Country Club (the old club house is the in the background) is John R. Gammeter who owned Akron's first plane. We don't know how high he went or how far but he survived. Mr. Gammeter gained fame as an inventor. His 266 inventions included the first machine for winding golf balls with rubber thread.
