| Title | First M. E. Church |
| Description | The first church building constructed by the First Methodist Episcopal Church was built on the northwest corner of Broadway and Church. In 1841, this building was destroyed by fire. In 1867, industrialist Lewis Miller and local architect, Jacob Snyder began to plan for a new church building. Dedicated in 1871, it was based on Miller's architectural plan which featured classrooms situated in a semi-circle that would open to a central assembly room. Known as the "Akron Plan", this architectural design was adopted by 2,000 churches in North America. On August 30, 1911, it was destroyed by a fire. In October, 1913 this building was replaced by a new building on South Mill Street. (Art Work of Akron, Ohio. pt. 9 pg. 4) |
