TitleView on Akron & Cuyahoga Falls Rapid Transit Railway
DescriptionDue to the many valleys and ridges over which the Akron & Cuyahoga Falls Rapid Tranist Railway crossed, it was commonly called the Mountain Line. The line was built by Thomas F. Walsh of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. John F. Seiberling had tried to build his own line through the area and his foreman even reputedly tore up a court injunction intended to stop the construction handed to him by Walsh. Winning the competition, Walsh drove the first trolley from Cuyahoga Falls to the Empire House on June 21, 1894. Service to Silver Lake started the following day. Seiberling's line, the Akron & Cuyahoga Falls Street Railway, was completed in 1895. Walsh and Seiberling continued to compete, expanding their lines and building up resorts at Summit Lake in Summit County, Ohio to attract customers to ride on their trolleys.
