DescriptionAt 5:52 PM the U.S. Navy entry in the 1927 National Balloon Race leaves the ground piloted by Lt. "Tex" Settle and Chief Boatswains Mate George Steelman. Although their 393 mile flight to Pope Mills, NY was not far enough to place in this race, Settle would go on to place 1st in the 1931 National Balloon Race which had its starting point in Akron, Ohio.
