The Akron-Cleveland Speedway in Northampton Township was the starting point of the 1927 National Balloon Race which took place on May 30th, 1927. In this aerial view you can see the contestants in varying stages of inflation before the start of the race. The entrants were vying for the coveted Litchfield Trophy which was awarded to the balloon which lands the furthest distance from the starting point.
