Chautauqua Auditorium at Chautauqua Park, Silver Lake, Ohio. Independent Chautauquas, (also commonly called "daughter chautauquas" and occasionally referred to as "community chautauquas") well over 200 of them at one time became part of the American landscape in the late 1800s. These chautauquas were either created to emulate the first "Mother Chautauqua" of New York, or even to imitate the bigger independents. Silver Lake Park's "Chautauqua Park" featured prominent speakers.
