General Voris worked as an Ohio lawyer and a legislator before enlisting in the Army. In September 1861, Voris entered the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel of the 67th Regiment. In March of that year he was promoted to commanding officer. Voris fought in many famous battles, and was wounded several times during his military career. He was brevetted Brigadier General on December 8, 1864. A few months later Voris was promoted again to Major General for his distinguished service in the field. After the war, General Voris resumed the practice of law, was later elected to the Constitutional Assembly, and served as Judge of the Court of Common Pleas for Summit, Medina and Lorain counties. He retired in 1896.
