Exterior photograph of the new Camp Butler , a new Boy Scout camp adjoined to Camp Manatoc in Boston Township . The entrance was near the C . Emerson Reeder home . The new camp bordered Camp Manatoc , but was seperated by a ravine . Camp Butler was named for the late Dr . Karl H . Butler of Akron , who gave the original land for Manatoc . It had no dining hall , so Scouts camping in 10 troops for six weeks had to cook out .

Army Scout Camp / Rt 303 / Beacon Journal Photo May 11 1962 / 2 col state saturday / Pictured in the center is Elizabeth Clarke Copley , who married Gardiner Greene of Boston in 1800 . Their daughter , Martha , married Charles Amory of Boston and brought the painting to the U.S . in 1864 . Up to that time the portrait hung in the Copley home in London . The occasion for the painting was the artist's reunion with his family in London after leaving them in Boston two years earlier to study art in Italy . Summit County histories list "Gardner Green of Boston " as one of the original proprietors of Copley , originally a part of Medina County until Summit was created in 1840 . Karl Grismer's history recounted that Copley was "first named Greenville and later changed to Copley to honor the maiden name of Green's wife , said to be a descendant of Lord Copley of England. " Sounds like the same people . The Old Pioneer Spirit . By July 4 the Akron Area Boy Scout Council will have a new camp site open adjoining its present Camp Manatoc in Boston Twp . Motorists along Rt . 303 between Boston Heights and Peninsula already can see the signs for Camp Butler . The entrance is near the C . Emerson Reeder home . Manatoc's gateway is off Truxell and Akron-Peninsula rds . The two camp site border each other but are separated by ravines . The new Camp Butler is named for the late Dr . Karl H . Butler of Akron who gave the original land for Manatoc . It will have no dining hall so Scouts camping in 10 troops for six-week periods will cook out . An Olympic-sized swimming pool has been constructed . The Scouts ' capital development fund drive of three years ago provided the money for land purchase and development .
