This collection contains 19 images generated from glass plate negatives created in the 1880s. Edwin Bell Howe, a descendent of the well known canal engineer Richard Howe, created these images of the canals and railroads in Summit County in the late 19th century.
The photographs in this collection were gathered and digitized as part of a community photograph project hosted by the Portage Lakes Branch of the Akron-Summit County Public Library in partnership with the Portage Lakes Historical Society. Images in this collection are the property of community members who have granted permission to the Akron-Summit County Public Library and the Portage Lakes Historical Society to share their photographs digitally.
